Over the last twenty years I have worked with a wide range of
people in a variety of environments and with individuals and
groups with diverse and often complex needs. I have studied the
philosophies and teaching of both east and western societies and
believe that we all continue to learn and grow from all our
experiences, good and bad.
I believe we are all working towards being the best version of
ourselves, sometimes we struggle and fall, and sometimes the
challenges we face can feel overwhelming. My interest in
counselling was born out of my concern and the need to understand
and help a family member who suffered with sever mental illness
from an early age.
I realised the fragility of the human experience and wanted to
learn more. My work with addictions and the homeless was part of
this journey. As I learnt more about how the brain works and the
influences and experiences that shape us, what was evident was
that we all suffer at times and exploring ways to move beyond the
suffering can be challenging and very daunting on our own.
My understanding is that the relationship between counsellor and
client is paramount. This relationship has to be one of trust and
support in a confidential and caring environment where clients can
find a true sense of ‘self’ with the resources they need to live a
meaningful and fulfilling life.
I understand that each client is unique and the support and
strategies I offer are as individual and unique as each of my
clients.
